After Ansgar’s revelation that Maria will make him boss of the Holding the following day, Carla is angry and hurt by Maria’s apparent betrayal. Maria tries to explain to her that her attempts to get to know Carla better were honest, but Carla refuses to hear her out and leaves the library.
Butler Justus is still giving Christian a hard time in his new job as caretaker of the park and estates of Königsbrunn. When Stella finds him doing research in the office, she notices that there is something going on. Christian is about to tell her about Justus, but then decides against it.
Later, Stella is in her office with the cook when Carla comes to see her. Carla asks Stella whether she has already talked to Justus. When Stella is confused, Carla adds that Justus is supposed to inquire about bionomic fertilizer for the rose beds. Stella finally gets it and plays along, telling Carla that she hasn’t seen Justus yet to ask him about it.
The cook finally leaves them, and Carla closes the door behind her. With a sigh of relief, Carla hugs Stella and tells her how much she missed Stella’s embrace. Stella realizes that something is troubling Carla and asks her whether something has happened.
Carla leads Stella to the sofa and then tells Stella that once again, she was disappointed by someone she was about to take into her heart. After affirming to Stella that she of course wasn’t talking about her (which Stella only half-jokingly suspected), Carla asks Stella whether she noticed something odd about Carla’s supposed mother Maria at Schneider’s that morning. Stella remembers Maria as being nice, open and affectionate, but Carla tells her that it was all an act, and that Maria is the most dishonest and devious person she knows, except maybe for Ansgar and Tanja.
Carla then gives Stella an account of what happened in the library, that Maria coldly announced to Carla that she would deprive her from her position at the Holding to instead make Ansgar the new boss. Stella is outraged and wants to know what Carla plans to do, but Carla tells her that she won’t do anything, and that apparently, she would have plenty of time from the following day on. When Stella insists that Maria had no right to do that to Carla, Carla explains to her that, as head of the family, Maria has the power to do just that. Sad-faced, Carla adds that she wishes that her mother had never returned.
Stella suggests that Carla should talk to Maria again. While enfolding Stella in her arms again for another long, comforting embrace, Carla tells her that there would be no use in doing that, because Ansgar is their “mother’s” favourite and when it comes to him, the others don’t matter anymore.
The next day, Stella confronts Justus with his attitude towards Christian, and he tells her that he doesn’t think that Christian is qualified for the job and that Stella only gave it to him because he is her cousin. Stella denies Justus’ allegations, but when she meets Christian in the kitchen and he makes deprecative remarks about Rebecca von Lahnstein, Stella has to remind him that he is now working for the Lahnsteins.
Meanwhile, Carla and her family are at the Holding where Maria is set to do an interview as Francesca von Lahnstein, in which she is supposed to announce that Ansgar will become the new boss of the Holding. When Maria actually announces Carla’s resignation, Carla looks hurt.
But much to everyone’s suprise, Maria then declares that she herself will take over leadership of the Holding.

Elisabeth returns to Königsbrunn, following an invitation by Leonard. Ansgar tries to send Elisabeth packing again and demands that Maria as “Francesca” backs him up, but when Carla tells Maria that if she does that, she will ultimately lose her daughter, Maria gives in and allows Elisabeth to stay.
The next morning, Carla is in the salon, talking to Stella on the phone. Carla tells Stella that she has to leave the castle, even though she would have loved to see Stella. When Stella is disappointed, Carla suggests that they should have dinner together that night and that she would come up with something nice. Stella agrees, and tells Carla that she misses her. Carla replies that she misses Stella, too.
Meanwhile, Elisabeth has entered the entrance hall and overhears the last part of Carla’s call to Stella. When Carla joins her, Elisabeth correctly assumes that Carla talked to Stella. Elisabeth tells Carla that she is glad that the two of them eventually found each other because Carla deserves it.
